  • Massachusetts: The Massachusetts Institute of Technology announced Friday that it has launched a $5 billion fundraising campaign aimed at accelerating university research. The MIT Campaign for a Better World aims to use MIT research to tackle issues such as climate change, access to clean water, and Alzheimer's disease (Krantz, Boston Globe, 5/6). 
  • Minnesota/North Carolina: The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) system has lifted its ban on travel to North Carolina over the state's law restricting the rights of LGBT people (HB2). MnSCU says it is confident that the Justice Department will address the law and that it cannot be enforced (AP/Minneapolis Star Tribune, 5/6).
  • Texas: Texas Christian University misspelled "University" as "Univeristy" in the first page of its program for last weekend's commencement ceremony. A spokesperson for the school says it is looking into how the error occurred (Williams, Star-Telegram, 5/7).
