Arizona: Report reveals the state's fastest-growing majors

Bite-sized higher ed news from a campus near you

Business, health, and engineering programs more popular in Arizona, according to a report from the state's board of regents.

At the University of Arizona, which awards roughly one quarter of the state's degrees, the most popular subjects for degrees conferred in the 2015-2016 academic year were:

  • Business;
  • Health-related programs;
  • Biological or biomedical sciences; and
  • Engineering.

Those results mirror the statewide results; business and marketing saw the fastest growth at the undergraduate level statewide, while engineering programs saw the fastest growth at the graduate level.

The fastest-growing and most popular degrees also roughly aligned with those in which graduates have high median salaries, which the report also tracked.

Meanwhile, education programs conferred nearly 600 fewer degrees in the 2015-2016 year statewide than they did in the 2007-2008 year (Wiles, The Republic, 11/14; Jung, Arizona Daily Star, 12/6).
