Carla Hickman serves as Managing Director with EAB. Carla works with higher education leaders across the two- and four-year sectors overseeing research for the Community College Executive Forum and for leaders of continuing, professional, online, and adult education through the COE Forum. Her research spans the student and program lifecycles and focuses on marketing and recruiting excellence, program and portfolio management, employer partnerships, and promoting persistence and completion among all students.
During her time at EAB, Carla has worked with provosts, chief business officers, IT directors, and senior academic affairs leaders on a diverse range of topics including global strategy, faculty engagement in online and multimodal learning, organization and budget models, doctoral education, student success, and managing the research enterprise.
In addition to her time at EAB, Carla served as a business analyst with the Postsecondary Success program at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. In this role, Carla supported Completion by Design, a signature investment in scaling student success and organizational excellence across community colleges.
Carla started her career in education as an elementary teacher in New York City and Washington, D.C. She holds an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University where she studied marketing strategy and social entrepreneurship. She also holds an MS for Teachers from Pace University and completed her undergraduate studies in political science at Colgate University.
