Administrators at some institutions regularly adjust faculty salaries in order to provide merit-based compensation and to avoid salary inequity. This brief examines the process for determining faculty salaries and assessing salary equity at large public institutions. The report also identifies the information analyzed through equity studies and the processes for responding to faculty concerns about salary equity.
