As community colleges manage often higher-than-ever enrollment, administrative structures like advising offices become critical in ensuring that all students receive sufficient guidance and appropriate information to graduate in a timely manner. However, community colleges often struggle to cultivate and advance advising offices so as to ensure that students take advantage of these services. This brief explores different models for structuring a community college advising office; strategies for channeling students into different advising services; processes for training advisors; and methods for evaluating advising processes, both on a system-wide level and on an individual advisor level.
