Summary

With over half of community college students nationally in need of sort of developmental or remedial education, many institutions are experimenting with new strategies for organizing and delivering developmental education courses.  This research brief offers an overview of the organizational structure of developmental education programs at six large community colleges, and profiles various strategies the institutions use to improve the developmental education success rates.  Such strategies include accelerated developmental courses, courses with lab components, and student mentorship programs.
