University administrators may choose to automate human resources functions to save staff time and minimize paper processing of documents like applications, employment contracts, and faculty credentials. This report examines the technologies used to automate office processes, outcomes resulting from the automation, and challenges administrators experienced when adopting the new process.

Research Questions

  • How have institutions streamlined and/or automated processes overseen by the human resources department, such as recruitment and hiring, payroll, or compliance?
  • What motivated the automation, and who was involved in the process?
  • What technologies do administrators use to support process automation, and how were those tools selected?
