Summary

This report profiles methods to define, provide instruction, and assess a set of baseline and ‘soft’ skills in-demand among employers at research intensive private and public institutions. The report studies how skills are framed at the institutional level and developed within courses through sequential instruction, maps baseline skills to institutional, program, and course goals, and suggests using summative and formative assessments to build and measure skills simultaneously.

Research Questions

  • How do universities define, provide instruction and assess the leading baseline and soft skills?
  • How are baseline/soft skills reflected in course and program goals and objectives?
