An introduction to the College Scorecard

This September, the federal government released the College Scorecard, a user-friendly resource for students and families to access information about the cost and value of postsecondary institutions across the country. The Scorecard compiles data from several federal data sources, including IPEDS, the National Student Loan Dataset (NSLDS), and the U.S. Treasury, and it allows students and families to compare these data across institutions when making college decisions. In addition to tried-and-true variables such as student demographics and test scores, the Scorecard provides prospects with data on:

  • Median salary 10 years after college entry for Title IV aid recipients
  • Median federal student debt post-graduation
  • Typical monthly loan payment
