How to educate your leaders on mission-critical facilities issues

By Ann Forman, Consultant

The physical plant is the single most valuable asset for most colleges and universities. Physical space is the literal foundation supporting an institution’s academic mission. While Facilities leaders are well aware of the physical plant’s strategic importance and the high stakes involved in managing it, senior leaders see facilities operations and maintenance as a bottom-line cost to be controlled, not an institutional priority.

To help educate senior leaders on the greatest challenges facing the physical campus, we created the Executive Briefing on Mission-Critical Issues. This briefing provides insight into three critical issues—space management, deferred maintenance, and designing for the future—and explores why each is important for institutional leaders to confront right now.
