Summary

Winter break programs can increase engagement by keeping students active between semesters. This brief explores seven institutions’ winter break offerings, including service-learning trips, externships, and on-campus courses and workshops. Student, staff, and faculty participation is considered, as well as funding models that some institutions employ. Finally, this brief explores the contribution of winter break offerings to a well-rounded undergraduate education.
