Critical Steps to Prepare for the Impending Mental Health Surge

This event has passed.

About the Webinar

Speakers: Pete Talbot & Ben Court

Schools across the country will confront an unprecedented surge in mental health concerns among their students and staff as a result of COVID-19. Even prior to the coronavirus outbreak, rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide among children and teens were steadily rising at alarming rates, and the trauma associated with a global pandemic and a precipitous economic downturn threaten to greatly exacerbate those trends.

Districts must move quickly to build the necessary infrastructure and support systems or risk being completely overwhelmed when school (in whatever form) resumes in the fall. Schools must be able to identify student needs as early as possible and find a way to provide critical support despite scarce resources. This approach requires districts to apply key principles of population health management derived from healthcare. EAB researchers will present a multi-stage strategy for districts to prepare their mental health supports and systems of care for the demands of the next school year.

Suggested audience: Superintendents, assistant/associate superintendents, and directors of student services/counseling
