FAQ

The Basics

  • What is CONNECTED?

CONNECTED is the annual leadership summit for members of the Student Success Collaborative. It is a two-day experience designed to bring the most relevant, actionable, and inspired ideas in student success to administrators responsible for positively inflecting student outcomes. Through thought-provoking research, expert-facilitated networking sessions, and real-time engagement with the latest student success technology, this event will energize your student success initiatives and drive positive change on your campus. We expect over 500 attendees from across the country to join us at this year's event.
  • When and where will it take place this year?

CONNECTED will take place on October 5th and 6th, 2017 at the Marriott Marquis hotel in downtown Washington, DC.

    The Marriott Marquis address is:
    901 Massachusetts Avenue NW
    Washington, DC 20001
    202-824-9200

If you are interested in more details about the venue, visit the Marriott Marquis website.

Event Registration

  • Who can attend CONNECTED?

Each member college and university in the Collaborative can send up to two attendees. We recommend that the Program Sponsor and Program Owner from your Student Success Collaborative leadership team attend.

Members that also work with our student mobile product team (Guide) can send an additional two attendees to CONNECTED (i.e., four in total).

Under special circumstances, we also approve attendees from institutions that are interested in joining the Student Success Collaborative and from student success-oriented organizations and media outlets. Please contact Caitlyne Brown if you are not a member but interested in attending.
  • How do I register for CONNECTED?

If you aren't already registered, submit your registration application here. The CONNECTED team will notify you via email once your registration has been approved.
  • How much does CONNECTED cost?

There is no conference fee for members of the Student Success Collaborative. Attendance at CONNECTED is a complimentary part of your membership. However, space is limited (see 'Who can attend CONNECTED?').

Picking Sessions

  • How do I register for specific sessions?

You will be able to register for individual sessions through the CONNECTED website starting in mid- to late-June by visiting the AGENDA tab. Browse the PDF on the AGENDA tab now for a preview of the agenda and to start identifying sessions you may want to attend. Once session registration opens, you will be notified via email and that page will contain a dynamic scheduling application, enabling you to select all the sessions you wish to attend across the two days and add them to your personal schedule.

While attendees can change their session registrations at any time up to and including the event, many sessions do have capacity caps and we will use schedule data to maintain registration lists and waitlists. Attendees should register as soon as possible to save their spots.
  • What if I can't decide which sessions to attend?

You can attend whichever sessions you like. However, there is a lot to choose from! As you look over the session options, consider your institutional priorities for the coming year, challenges you faced across the previous year, and whether other attendees from your institution can "divide and conquer" to cover more ground. If you are still not sure, we encourage you to connect with your dedicated consultant to discuss options and gain additional insight into the planned content.
  • Are there opportunities for members to present at CONNECTED?

Yes! Learning from one another is a key part of the CONNECTED experience, and there are multiple ways for interested attendees to participate. For more information, visit the CONNECTED Submissions page.

Hotel and Travel

  • How do I get there?

The Marriott Marquis hotel is conveniently located in the heart of the city, near the Convention Center and CityCenter district. It is easily accessible by train, metro, bus, or from the DC airports. For detailed directions to the hotel, airport information, and parking rates and information, please visit the Marriott Marquis website.
  • Is there a hotel where I should stay?

You are welcome to stay anywhere, but for your convenience, EAB has reserved a block of rooms for CONNECTED attendees at the conference venue, the Marriott Marquis Washington, DC. The negotiated nightly rate is $299/Single or Double and is available for the nights of October 4 and October 5. Unfortunately, the room block rate does not apply to nights outside of those dates and, during this time of year, hotel availability can be limited.

You can book your stay online using our CONNECTED 2017 reservation portal or by phone at 888-236-2427. Mention Education Advisory Board and CONNECTED to access the above rates.

Please make your reservation at your earliest convenience, as space and rates are subject to availability, and note that the cut-off date for the negotiated rates is Wednesday, September 13, 2017. If you would like alternative hotel information, please email events@eab.com.
  • Where can I find information about DC and local attractions?

If you're not familiar with DC, we've put together a quick guide with local attractions and suggested restaurants. Download the guide.

Preparing to Attend

  • What do I need to bring?

CONNECTED is paperless, so it is important to bring a laptop or tablet with you to access the session materials and take notes (pens and notebooks will also be available for the old-school among us).

Also, you might bring comfortable shoes and an athletic outfit in case you choose to participate in our "extra-curricular" activities. As we approach the meeting, events will become available on the Agenda tab.
  • How do I find out who else is coming?

Once you're registered, you can see a list of attendees by navigating to the Attendees tab of the CONNECTED event page. Anyone that registers and consents to share their information will be listed there. You can search by name or find peers with similar interests using the "topic" tags.

For privacy, only registered attendees will be able to view the attendee list.
  • What is recommended attire?

There is no dress code for CONNECTED. Typically, members go for business casual. But teacher casual or suited up works too.
  • Will meals be provided?

Meals will be provided as indicated below. Please note that all meals are informal and buffet-style.
    • Day 1 (October 5): breakfast (special sessions only); lunch (all); reception with drinks and heavy appetizers (all)
    • Day 2 (October 6): breakfast (all)
Snacks and caffeinated beverages (don't worry!) will be available throughout the conference.

If you are looking for restaurant recommendations for other meals, please email events@eab.com.
  • Who should I contact if I have special dietary needs or allergies?

Please contact CONNECTED@eab.com if you have any special needs, dietary restrictions, or allergies that the CONNECTED team should be made aware of.
